The Relevant 2026 Amazon News

Amazon’s July 11, 2026 Global Selling notice said US AWD would stop accepting new oversize products from July 31. For new US AWD inbound, the notice requires each unit to be smaller than 18 x 14 x 8 inches and lighter than 20 pounds. Amazon directed affected products to FBA, which makes final packaging data important for large-item sellers shipping from China.

The notice is about US AWD, not a universal packaging rule for every marketplace. Sellers must still follow the live FBA packaging, prep, labeling and inbound instructions for the destination.

Design the Sellable Unit

Measure the finished unit after all protective packaging. Record length, width, height and shipping weight by ASIN, then keep separate master-carton and pallet records. Packaging that changes a measured dimension or weight can affect transport planning and Amazon classification.

Do not optimize for minimum carton volume before testing. The best design balances product protection, worker handling, dimensional weight, container utilization and return practicality.

Material and Protection Choices

  • Use cushioning that controls movement and protects corners and surfaces.
  • Seal cartons against ordinary handling and moisture exposure appropriate to the route.
  • Secure doors, hinges, cables and detachable parts inside the package.
  • Add edge and corner protection for products vulnerable to compression.
  • Test drop, vibration and compression performance before mass production.

The exact material specification depends on product fragility, weight, shape and carrier handling. A specific thickness or carton grade is not universally confirmed by the cited Amazon sources.

Cartons, Pallets and Labels

Keep carton quantities and physical dimensions consistent with the Amazon shipment plan. Make required product and shipment labels scannable and place them according to the current Seller Central instructions. Photograph final cartons and keep packing records tied to the shipment ID.

For ocean freight, palletize when appropriate for the product and receiving workflow. Confirm pallet dimensions, weight, wrapping and carrier requirements with the forwarder and destination warehouse. Large cartons can create appointment, unloading and damage risks even when the product itself is compliant.

Packaging and Logistics Cost

Compare packaging cost with China domestic transport, international freight, customs handling, destination trucking, storage, FBA fees and returns. Amazon says FBA fulfillment fees depend on size and weight tiers, but exact current rates vary by marketplace, product and schedule. Packaging that lowers cubic volume can reduce freight while increasing damage risk, so test the total outcome.

For China to US shipping and other destinations, keep product packaging, export carton and pallet data separate. This helps the forwarder quote accurately and helps the seller identify where a cost increase occurred.
